Resident Camp Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and Programs

Who can attend camp?

Resident camps are open to all girls ages 6-18, or going into grades 1-12. Girls who are not currently registered members of Girl Scouts pay an additional $10 for membership. The membership fee is payable
once between Oct. 1 and Sept. 30 annually.

Where do campers live?

Living arrangements vary at each resident camp. Scoutcrest campers live in cabins or large platform tents; campers at Dorothy Thomas live in cabins, a lodge or large platform tents; and campers at Wildwood stay in cabins or dormitory lodging. When girls’ age levels are mixed, such as a session for all ages, younger girls live separately from older girls. Counselors live in a centrally located cabin or an adjoining room. Adults and campers maintain separate sleeping areas.

Who are the camp counselors?

Adult females directly supervise the campers. Many of our adult staff are current or former Girl Scouts; some are teachers or college students, and junior counselors serve as support staff. Staff training occurs during the two weeks before campers arrive. Men who serve as
support staff have separate housing from all females. Each employee undergoes background screening.

What if my camper gets homesick?

Separation anxiety is normal. Staff receive training on how to help campers overcome homesickness. Be positive about your camper’s stay and encourage her by focusing on the new friends and skills she will gain at camp. Call the camp director if you are concerned. Refunds are not given if parents choose to pick up campers early.

Can we change sessions?

If the parent/guardian wishes to change the camper’s session, there will be a $15 processing fee. Changes are based on availability.

Can my daughter and her friend be cabinmates?

Campers may choose only one buddy to live in the same cabin or tent. The girls must be eligible for the same program and their registrations must be submitted together. Requests for more than one buddy will be processed individually. The camp director will do her best to keep friends together. Campers may not “move up or down” an age level to be with a buddy in another age group.

What awards (badges or Try-Its) can my camper earn?

Girls help decide which awards they want to work towards. Generally, every girl has an opportunity to work toward earning an award related to the theme of the session and an outdoor award. Awards will be available for purchase at the camp Trading Post.

What are the staff to camper ratios?

Girls entering grades 1-3:
1 adult per 6 campers; girls
entering grades 4-6: 1
adult per 8 campers; girls
entering grades 7-12: 1
adult per 10 campers.
