Equestrian Workshop Rules

1. Each participant will need a pencil, paper, nosebag lunch and drink, shoes or boots with a heel and slick soles (no waffle-soles or hiking boots), long pants or jeans, signed riding release form and medical permission to treat form.

Boots are to be worn at all times while in and around the stable area, including chaperones entering stable. Boots must have a defined heel. The heel must be a smooth surface heel, no tennis shoes or shoes with waffle heel are allowed (waffle heels are commonly found on hiking boots and tennis shoes).

Please note: A limited supply of acceptable riding shoes are available free of charge at the Camp Wildwood barn, if you have questions or are unable to bring acceptable riding shoes before visiting Camp Wildwood, please contact Kathy Wildenauer, kwildenauer@gswcf.org with details about the number of shoes needed for your group. Shoe/boot donations are also accepted if they meet the acceptable riding shoe requirements as listed below, for more information on donating boots, please contact Connie White.

2. Participants will be sharing horses, and they will learn about horse care, grooming, and tacking as well as help perform some barn kapers.

3. Adult participants and/or troop leaders will be limited to 2 participants. They may remain in the barn with the girls during the workshop, but in order to reduce distractions and confusion, additional adult chaperones will be discouraged from the barn area. Any chaperone entering the barn must wear boots.

4. Anyone who plans to ride, girls and adults, must attend all lecture sessions and pay the fee accordingly. Riding experience does not preclude this requirement since Camp Wildwood rules, regulations and procedures will be covered throughout the workshop. Adults must follow the same requirements as the girls.

5. Lunch will be scheduled for 60 – 90 minutes.

6. All troops should be prepared to stay until all the work is completed on the 2nd day. If you can’t stay, you won’t be allowed to ride. This means sometimes you will get done later than 6 pm and should consider this when you have a long drive.
